Imagine typing “a happy country song about my dog who steals socks” and getting a complete song, with singing, instruments, and lyrics, in under a minute. That’s what Suno does.
What is Suno?
Suno is an AI music generator. You describe the song you want, including the topic, style, and mood, and it creates an original track with vocals and music. You can also write your own lyrics and let Suno turn them into a song.
What can you make with it?
- A personalized birthday or anniversary song
- A funny song for a family event or a friend’s retirement
- Background music for videos
- Songs in many styles: pop, rock, jazz, country, reggaeton, classical, and more
- Instrumental tracks with no vocals
Is Suno free?
Suno has a free plan that gives you a few songs per day. Paid plans give you more songs, better quality, and the right to use the songs commercially. Check Suno’s website for current plans.
How to make your first song
- Go to suno.com or download the Suno app and sign up.
- Click Create.
- Describe your song, for example: “an upbeat 80s pop song about Sunday pancakes with the family”.
- Click Create and wait about a minute. Suno usually makes two versions.
- Listen, pick your favorite, and download or share it.
Tips for better songs
- Name the style clearly: “acoustic folk”, “slow soul ballad”, “90s hip hop”.
- Add details for personal songs: names, inside jokes, places.
- Write your own lyrics in custom mode for more control.
Things to watch out for
- Copyright is still being debated. The music industry and AI companies are still working out the rules around AI music. Don’t try to imitate a specific famous artist.
- Free-plan songs usually can’t be used commercially. Read the terms before using a song in a business video.
The bottom line
Suno is one of the most fun AI tools you can try. Even if you’ve never played an instrument, you can create a personal song for someone you love in minutes.
